The newly built or restored airports are located in Phnom Penh City, Siem Reap Province, Qigonghai City of Guogong Province, Bobby City of Buddy Mian Province and some places in the northeastern provinces. Wangjiajun Airport is also newly built. Airports in the northeastern provinces will be located in the provinces of Shangding, Mondokiri or Ratanakiri.

The entire project requires the Cambodian government to invest US$3.748 billion. The government plans to cooperate with private companies to promote and support the long-term development of the Cambodian economy and improve the competitiveness of cargo and passenger air transportation. The newly built and restored airports will implement a modern management system.

At present, the daily flights of the three major airports in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Westport are more than 100 departures. There are more than 40 airlines operating in Cambodia with a growth rate of 16%. The existing airport is about to enter an overloaded operation and cannot cope with the capacity of 30 million passengers per year by 2030.

Last year, Cambodia had more than 100,000 flights taking off and landing, carrying 10.5 million passengers and transporting 70,000 tons of cargo.
